The Georg Jensen Project

The Georg Jensen Project is an ongoing project that was initiated by client request in order to document their extensive collection. The client intends to use this information to assess opportunities to donate or sell pieces of the collection. I saw this as an excellent chance to continually grow my skillset in cataloging. The project is done by myself with the client’s collection of Georg Jensen silver. This is being done under the banner of a LLC I made for the freelance work by the name of Andrew Bolles Freelance Cataloging (ABFC) LLC.

The project consists of recording the markings on the silver in order to identify key information about the object, noting the condition of the object, the location in which it is kept, the pattern, the type, and more. The object is named after the designation that it has been stamped with by the company Georg Jensen with markers such as a -1 or -2 depending on the amount of the same number. Pictures are then taken and uploaded to a folder named after the specific object.

An example would be as below;

992: Pregnant Duck

The marking indicate the following;

HK: indicates that the design is one by Henning Koppel

Z10: is the swedish import mark indicating was produced in 1998

Denmark: origin of the object

Georg Jensen: that the specific brand logo indicates it is from 1945-present

Sterling: Indicated that it is sterling silver.

925.S indicates the purity of the silver, meaning it is 92.5%

992 is the number designation of the design

Of these a number would be entered into the master document for recording
